Business Assistant, Ag Employment Center Full Description

As the Business Assistant in the College of Agriculture Employment Center, you will collaborate closely with other center and business office staff, as well as engage with faculty, departmental staff, and students. Your primary responsibilities will involve executing various business functions to support the employment process for organizational units in the college. This includes managing payroll-related tasks such as processing student hire and employment change requests, entering award payments, completing off-cycle forms, and, importantly, serving as the main backup to the I-9verifier in the center. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting I-9 verifications and reverifications, playing a vital part in ensuring compliance with employment eligibility guidelines. In addition to these duties, you will act as a liaison between departmental business offices and central payroll, by analyzing, resolving, or recommending actions for unique problems related to your tasks as they arise.   
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring on-campus presence two days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely on the remaining days.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
  • High school diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of account clerk, bookkeeping, business, or related experience
 
Skills needed:
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, file management and records, forms, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in providing a high level of customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility, maintaining quality standards, and handling confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must be extremely flexible and adaptable to constantly varying work environments and with limited daily supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and implement policies and procedures
 
What is helpful:
  • Two (2) years of University business office experience
  • Experience with SAP and Success Factors
