Job Summary  | The Coordinator of Hispanic Serving Institutions Initiatives will report to the direction of the Senior Director of Hispanic Serving Institutions Initiative (HSIs), the Coordinator of HSIs will assist in the coordination and implementation of HSI Initiatives. This position acts as the primary liaison with the event promoter/venue user to coordinate and oversee all phases of the event planning. In addition, this position will assist the Senior Director of HSIs to design and implement HSI strategies that promote sense of belonging, support students within the assigned program to achieve the goal of providing access to excellence, enhance academic capacity, and excel academic quality.The coordinator will assist leading community outreach projects, as well as collaborate with student organizations, university units, and community partners for mentorship and programing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities  | Lead and organize Hispanic Serving initiatives, through a variety of formats such as conferences, student retreats, professional development workshops, etc. Responsible for overseeing speaker contracts, sponsorships, presenters and marketing and other event planning tasks. Build and maintain relationships with campus and community partners related to program development and engagement. Represent the Hispanic Serving Institutions Initiatives on various campus and community projects and committees. Assist with the supervision of graduate and student office assistants. Responsible for assisting on the selection, training, and ongoing development of student assistants. Gather data to measure project success and implementation progress to Assist the Senior Director of HSIs to ensure attainment of program goals and objectives. Develop mentorship programs, to support a sense of community, leadership, and professional development. Establish campus and community partnerships, including alumni, for student mentorship and development opportunities. Assist with the advising of student organizations supported by the office. Advice and assist students in the different processes of the student experience; promote student retention through support, encouragement and guidance; provide mentorship and support to enhance the success of students and the HSI Department. Assist managing the budget for programs and services related to supervised programs and assist in the day-to-day operations of the HSI department.
Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in communication, organizational leadership or related degree with two (2) years of experience developing and conducting workshops/seminars, advising student organizations, coordinating programs, implementing program initiatives with a specific focus the student experience or equivalent relevant experience. Experience in developing and conducting workshops/seminars.
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s Degree and direct experience with/advising student organizations. Demonstrated knowledge of leadership theory, budget planning, program management and student advising techniques. Experience with event management, contract negotiations and event production. Solid problem solving and critical thinking skills. Effective organizational skills, including ability to plan for future events and to execute in a timely manner. Experience in developing and conducting workshops/seminars.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  | Knowledge of advising, mentoring, and other related services at the undergraduate and graduate student’s level. Ability to utilize independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills. Excellent writing and public speaking skills. Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work autonomously and in team environment.
