Description
We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst with expertise in Data Build Tool (dbt) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming raw data into data models and documentation conducive to self-serve reporting (and chatbots). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data modeling, Data Warehouse architectures, SQL, and a proven track record of leveraging dbt to streamline the data transformation process.
What you'll do:
- Use dbt to develop, manage, and optimize data transformations in the Data Warehouse. Design data models that support business intelligence (BI) canned and self-serve reporting needs.
- Work with raw data from multiple sources, clean and structure it using transformations with dbt models, and make the transformed data accessible in the Self-Serve layer.
- Analyze datasets to diagnose data issues, integrate new data, uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights. Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify data needs and deliver valuable self-serve data models and supporting documentation (e.g., Data Glossary).
- Implement testing frameworks in dbt to ensure data accuracy and integrity across all transformations. Use dbt's built-in testing and documentation features to maintain high data quality standards.
- Work closely with data analysts, business analysts, business intelligence developers, and data scientists to create clear and actionable visualizations using tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (such as data engineering, software engineering, AI Engineering, product, marketing, and DevOps) to understand the business' data requirements and deliver efficient and effective solutions with high data quality.
- Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of dbt models, data flows, transformation logic, and a Data Glossary that maps back to source systems (where applicable). Advocate for best practices in data modeling and transformation processes.
- Stay current with new features in dbt, and continuously look for ways to improve the data pipeline and transformation processes for better performance and scalability.
What you'll bring:
- Proficiency in SQL for analyses, troubleshooting, and data transformation.
- Hands-on experience with dbt for building and managing data models, transformations, and tests.
- Familiarity with cloud-native Data Warehouse platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Solid understanding of data modeling techniques, data normalization, and structuring data in a way that facilitates analysis.
- Ability to design and implement dbt models that support efficient and reliable data workflows.
- Experience with data reporting or data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Cognos to analyze reports and dashboards for stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to extract insights from complex datasets and present them to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to document processes and create clear explanations of complex data workflows.
Ideal education/experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or a related field or comparable work experience.
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Analyst with 3+ years of experience working with dbt and data transformation processes.
- Experience with Data Warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Oracle.
This position will have an hourly rate up to $95/ hour. The successful candidate will be employed through Headway Workforce Solutions.
