Job Opening: Financial Reporting Manager

Springer Publishing is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Financial Reporting Manager to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Financial Reporting Manager will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting for both internal and external stakeholders. This position involves preparing comprehensive financial reports, supporting budget, and forecasting activities, and delivering actionable insights that drive strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial reporting, accounting principles, and data analysis, with experience in the academic publishing or media industry preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Provide in-depth analysis of financial performance trends, identifying key risks, opportunities, and variances.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial reports.
  • Offer actionable insights to guide senior management and department heads in strategic decision-making.

Data Management & Reporting:
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data from various sources to provide accurate and timely information to management.
  • Support sales and expense forecasting and analyze variances to identify underlying trends.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across all financial reports and analyses.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, analyzing variances to understand their causes and implications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure alignment of forecasts with overall business strategies.

Stakeholder Communication & Presentations:
  • Present financial findings and strategic recommendations to senior management and other key stakeholders in a clear and actionable format.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for Key Account Strategy reviews.
  • Communicate complex financial concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed and engaged in decision-making.

Process Improvement & Automation:
  • Evaluate and enhance financial reporting workflows for greater efficiency.
  • Implement best practices to reduce manual processes and improve the timeliness and accuracy of reporting.
  • Support new system implementations and automation initiatives to streamline financial reporting processes.

Qualifications

Educational Background:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) are a plus.

Experience:
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in financial reporting, accounting, or auditing.
  • Prior experience in the publishing, media, or education sectors is highly preferred.

Technical Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in financial reporting tools and Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, macros).
  • Experience with financial systems and data visualization tools is a plus.
