HR Training & Development Coordinator Full Description

General Summary of Position:
Shape the Future of Learning and Engagement at UMass Lowell. UMass Lowell is seeking a forward-thinking, people-focused HR Training & Development Coordinator to lead strategic employee learning and engagement initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and delivering learning and development programs that empower staff and faculty across the university. From onboarding and leadership development to employee recognition and engagement events, you’ll help shape the employee experience and foster a thriving campus culture.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, recommend, and implement innovative learning and development programs that support the full employee lifecycle—including onboarding, professional growth, wellness, leadership development, succession planning, and conflict resolution.
  • Deliver engaging training using diverse formats such as in-person workshops, online learning modules, and hybrid presentations.
  • Conduct needs assessments and gap analyses; research and apply best practices to build high-impact training experiences.
  • Collaborate with HR senior leadership to align development initiatives with strategic goals.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and adjust content or delivery methods based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain training documentation, evaluation tools, and tracking systems.
  • Lead employee engagement and recognition programs, including:
    • New employee orientation sessions and engagement programs
    • Annual Performance Management training for managers and staff
    • Employee Recognition Initiatives (e.g., KUDOS, Rowdy Recognition Award, Staff Honors Wall, University Shout Outs)
    • Retirement Celebrations

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. 
  • 5-7 years of HR or related experience, with at least 3-5 years of training experience, with a demonstrated track record of success in the role.
Additional Considerations:
    • Professional demeanor and strong presentation skills, and ability to organize and communicate information to groups of varying size and hierarchical levels in the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited school.
    • Experience in Higher Education.
    • Experience independently creating programming/training is strongly preferred.
    • Proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and other training technology platforms.
    • Knowledge of instructional design software and multimedia tools for content creation.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and other software applications.
