Job Description Summary:

Instructional designer to develop and update various trainings for live in-person and virtual facilitation, as well as self-paced e-learning content for employees at all levels of the organization.

As part of Jefferson County’s Employee Relations & Training team, the Instructional Design Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring we are delivering high quality, engaging, and inclusive Training content on a variety of topics for a diverse audience of employees and leaders throughout the County. You will update and develop content that will be used for live facilitated training both in-person and virtually. You will also update and develop self-paced e-learning content.
 
Schedule:
This position will primarily be performed remotely, and may have occasional duties, meetings, or events that are required to be performed in person at County facilities. 
NOTE - This is a grant-funded position that will end December 31, 2025.
 
This position is considered hybrid and will have duties that are required to be performed both in-person at County facilities and remotely. This position typically operates on a 4-day workweek (Monday-Thursday) and will be working 40 hours per week.   
 
Compensation:
Hiring Range: $80,954.48 to $85,000 USD Annually
This is a full-time, fully benefited position working 40 hours per week.   
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:  
  • Review and update existing training content for leaders (instructor led and self-paced) on a variety of supervisory and leadership topics such as (but not limited to)  coaching, performance management, and various legal and compliance topics. 
  • Research and collaborate with subject matter experts to develop instructor led and self-paced training on a variety of topics for employees at all levels of the organization. 
  • Translate existing training content for leaders into self-paced e-learning content. 
  • Develop training content and resources for employees and leaders on Milestone Meetings – our most commonly used performance review system. 
  • Provide support and complete tasks to support the existing aspiring leader program. 
  • Partner with teammates on the Training and Employee Relations teams on various projects and initiatives. 
  • Assist with tracking and communication efforts regarding completion of required trainings for employees and supervisors. 
  • Complete tasks and projects related to organizational development efforts as assigned. 
  • Utilize a variety of methods and platforms to develop and deliver engaging training, including: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, Articulate and in-person/classroom. 
  • Using our LMS, Workday Learning, import e-learning content to support self-paced compliance and personal/professional learning. 
 
Desired Duties: 
In addition to the instructional design duties, a highly desirable candidate would also perform the following duties on an as-needed basis: 
  • Facilitate live in-person and virtual training as needed and where qualified. 
  • Provide team specific organizational development support including change management and conflict resolution. 
  • Develop supplemental materials to aid in learning. 
  • Occasionally act as a Producer to live virtual trainings being facilitated by another team member via Zoom. 
  • Assist with administrative and support functions related to the Training & Development program. 
 
Skills and experience that lead to success in this role: 
  • Strong communication – Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts in writing and verbally. 
  • Technical Proficiency - Ability to effectively use various applications and technology to develop visually engaging full of meaningful content. 
  • Experience developing quality learning content and developing content in a way that engages audience by use of media, exercises, etc. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively to complete high quality work on-time. 
  • Experience developing and delivering high quality, inclusive learning content for a diverse audience with minimal high level direction. 
  • Effective Collaboration - Ability to effectively collaborate with teammates and supervisor to design trainings to meet specific needs of Jeffco workforce. 
  • Ability to listen, influence, and convey ideas clearly. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 Suite including SharePoint, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc. 
  • Experience with Workday Learning or another HRIS Learning Management System 
  • Fluent with technology and troubleshooting. 
  • Ability to effective facilitate inclusive live in-person and virtual trainings for a diverse group of attendees, as needed. 
  • Experience providing organizational development support in change management and/or conflict resolution.

Minimum Qualifications:   
  • Bachelor’s degree;   
  • Plus, a minimum of three years of work-related experience facilitating training in both a virtual and in-person environment.  
  • Or an equivalent combination of education & experience.   
  • Preferred: degree, certification, or coursework in organizational development, human resources, teaching/education, organizational psychology, business, etc.
