PURPOSE
Life University seeks an instructional designer (ID) for the University to execute our mission of providing a high-quality, global online educational experience through excellence in instructional design.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate with faculty subject matter experts (smes) and other relevant stakeholders to systematically (re)design standardized online courses as well as a variety of resources related to the enhancement of online learning experiences;
- Guide faculty smes through the systematic analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of online instruction, assignments, assessments, interactions, and technologies;
- Ensure instructional alignment in online courses;
- Ensure that courses are designed at the appropriate level based on how they are mapped to the program-level curriculum;
- Ensure that online courses adhere strictly to Quality Matters instructional-design standards;
- Train and support faculty smes in the application of best practices in online course design;
- Promote a student-centered approach to instruction, assignments, assessments, interactions, and technologies;
- Promote active learning strategies;
- Promote instructional techniques that maximize transfer of learning to real-life professional contexts;
- Promote low- and no-cost instructional materials whenever possible;
- Promote inclusive, diverse, and accessible learning experiences;
- Conduct quality assurance checks on all faculty SME deliverables;
- Postproduce instruction in our Blackboard learning management system.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- In coordination with various departments, develop information, to include survey data, applicable to accreditation requirements and course management databases.
- Assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or requested.

Qualifications
Education, Training and/or Experience
- A Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or related field from an accredited College or University.
- Five or more years of related experience in higher education.
- Quality Matters training.
- Three or more years of experience using Blackboard or similar LMS.
- Experience using authoring tools such as Camtasia, Rise, and Storyline.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Able to perform duties independently with general supervision.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and follow office procedures.
- Must be able to work well with diverse groups of individuals.
- Ability to deal with potentially difficult situations involving sensitive and confidential issues.
- Strong Computer skills; data entry and spreadsheet software capabilities.
- Strong attention to detail; ability to organize work and perform duties with a high level of accuracy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with all levels. High degree of phone skills, including the ability to persist to reach target and closely listen to needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional certification in online course design.
- Experience teaching online and/or face-to-face courses
- Experience using Adobe creative software such as Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrate, etc.
