Position Summary:
The Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty subject matter experts to design accessible courses that incorporate active learning, innovative teaching strategies, and appropriate use of technology tools to ensure that the College is producing polished, professional courses that meet diverse student needs in the
growing online marketplace. The instructional designer will contribute to faculty professional development by offering individualized consultations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. 90% of the instructional designer’s time will focus on online courses and programs; 10% will support the College’s
general instructional design needs.

The successful candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of instructional design strategies. They will be well-experienced in instructional design principles, such as the ADDIE model and backward design, to ensure alignment between learning outcome, assessments, and activities. They will
have advanced technical skills to support the creation of high touch, high quality online learning experiences and have experience with the pedagogical practices that support learning.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with subject matter expert faculty to create engaging learning activities in support of excellence in course design.
  • Design course assets in Canvas and using educational technology tools and flow course content into course shells.
  • Verify accessibility of course components.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Support course development process and ongoing course revisions, and complete course quality reviews.
  • Assist faculty with special projects (e.g., video recording and creation).
  • Support the operations of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:  
  • Bachelor's degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or education required, with at least 5 years of experience working in instructional design, teaching and learning with technology, or a directly related field; or, an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • At least two years of experience with Learning Management Systems, and supporting software solutions.
  • Ability to work with and train in both a PC and Mac environments.
  • Knowledge and experience in the educational applications of social media technologies.
  • Active participation in professional organizations and professional development programs relevant to the position.
  • Advanced knowledge of learning theories and instructional design principles. Skilled at providing both pedagogy and technology expertise support to faculty in all disciplines to produce engaging courses with strong teacher presence.
  • Knowledge of online program quality measurement schemes such as the OLC Quality Scorecard, the QM Rubric, or other similar models.
  • Expertise in designing in Canvas with significant knowledge of a menu of educational technology tools. Familiarity with CidiLabs DesignPlus, Articulate 360,Adobe Captivate is highly desirable.
  • Advanced computer and software skills, particularly Canvas; course development software; web conferencing systems; screen/lecture capture systems; basic video production; content management systems (WordPress preferred), assessment systems, HTML, MS Office, Google tools, and Adobe
    Creative Cloud.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying WCAG accessibility skills and Universal Design for Learning principles.
  • Excellent visual design and storyboarding skills.
  • Possess excellent attention to detail and skills in written and oral communication, customer service, and presentation design and delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and age levels.
  • Commitment to learning and adapting cutting-edge technologies for support of online and blended learning.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master's or advanced degree preferred.
  • Previous professional teaching and professional development training experience; experience in higher education preferred.
