Job Summary
The Managing Director (MD) of the Purdue-India and Asia Partnerships supports the mission of the Office of Global Partnerships, which is to increase the impact, scale, and sustainability of Purdue’s global partnerships for the purpose of creating additive and tangible contributions to
Purdue Moves, Purdue’s global reputation/rankings and the overall Purdue experience for students and faculty.
India is one of two formally recognized strategic partner nations for Purdue and Asia partnerships, at large, continue to expand. The MD will report to the director of global partnerships and works in conjunction with the Vice President for Global Partnerships and Programs. The MD will provide guidance to and seek input from the associate deans for global programs in all eleven colleges to initiate and support mutually beneficial collaboration efforts between Purdue and Asian universities, institutions, industry, and government entities. These collaborations cover the broad range of activities under the three land-grant pillars of research, learning, and engagement. Examples of such programs include fostering research collaboration, student and faculty mobility, and sponsored programs between faculty, students, universities, government, industry, and alumni.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Promoting faculty collaboration and increase and deepen research partnerships and mobility programs with Asian institutions
- Overseeing all programmatic and logistical aspects of existing and forthcoming Purdue-India programs and grants including, but not limited to, the Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellows Program (OVDF), Undergraduate Research Programs with Indian students, and funded mobility programs, including the “STARS Lite” Semiconductor workforce development program
- Maintaining Purdue-India website, drafting and disseminating regular newsletters, engaging stakeholders via social media channels
- Seeking out new funded opportunities for collaborative research, learning, and/or engagement for the benefit of Purdue University, with a focus on Asia
- Growing Purdue’s presence in India through more targeted outreach, including potentially setting up operations in country, with assistance and guidance from Purdue’s Global Support professionals
- Finding innovative ways to engage alumni and friends to lend their time, talent, and treasure to the India strategic partnership initiative and to Purdue overall
- Building and fostering relationships with stakeholders including Indian and U.S. government officials; academic leaders, including university presidents and deans for international relations; Purdue faculty and students engaged with Indian partners; Indian faculty and students interested in working with Purdue; alumni; industry representatives; and others to promote Purdue as a leader in world-changing research, committed to India engagement
- Providing support to Office of Global Partnerships initiatives from other countries and regions, including receiving international delegations on campus and supporting outgoing visits and other projects and programs that support OGP’s overall mission and promote campus internationalization
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, Management, or related area
- 6 years of experience in project development and coordination engaging with university faculty and students, and/or corporate, government, and NGO representatives both in the US and abroad
- Experience in resource assessment and communication, including interacting and negotiating with prospective sponsors and funding organizations.
- Self-motivated and have the ability to exercise sound judgment in prioritizing and executing multiple assignments.
- Detail-oriented, flexible to change, and possess communication and influencing skills to advance joint efforts.
- Skilled in collaborating as a team player as well as working independently to develop, implement, and administer programs driving desired results.
- Ability to plan and execute complex projects including fiscal planning and budgeting
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Highly organized, able to learn quickly, and able to relate to and communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, industry representatives, government officials, and community groups, across cultures
- Demonstrated ability to work with funding entities, and develop and implement funding strategies
- Must have excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a changing, dynamic environment
- Ability to travel to India and within the US is required, with the expectation of one to two international trips and one to two domestic trips per year of approximately one week in duration each
Nice to Have:
- Masters degree
- Prior experience working with Indian higher education institutions
What We'd Like You to Know:
- The Managing Director is based in West Lafayette, Indiana but is expected to travel domestically and internationally as needed for meetings, projects, conferences, etc.
