Job Summary  | The Office of Alumni Relations (U Alumni) is seeking a creative, collaborative, team-oriented professional to lead our social media strategy and voice for the U Alumni brand across the globe. The Social Media Communications Specialist will join a team of professionals to help advance the mission of U Alumni: creating, fostering, and preserving lifelong relationships between the university and U alumni, U students, and the community. We align with the University of Utah and University President’s mission and strategy, while engaging alumni early, broadly, and to alumni communities; preparing students to become engaged alumni; establishing a culture of philanthropy; and encouraging pride in the U.

Responsibilities include creating, coordinating, and executing a comprehensive social media strategy for the four brands at the Office of Alumni Relations: Utah Alumni, The MUSS, Student Alumni Board, and the Eccles Alumni House. The specialist will work to develop and maintain U Alumni’s standards of creative excellence while achieving goals.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, time-management and organizational skills, social and emotional intelligence, and the ability to triage and manage multiple priorities and projects. They will be a creative, detail-oriented self-starter with a strong work ethic and customer service orientation, capable of working independently on projects from conception to completion, and meeting deadlines. Operational knowledge of Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Design Suite is required. Knowledge of project management, social media management, and web content management system software is preferred.
Responsibilities  | · With the support of a marketing and communications team of design and content professionals, execute social media strategies and outcomes for four brands at the Office of Alumni Relations: Utah Alumni, The MUSS, Student Alumni Board (SAB), and the Eccles Alumni House.
· Design and execute social media strategies to achieve marketing targets for four brands at the Office of Alumni Relations.
· Manage, create, and publish original, high-quality content on social platforms.
· Administer social media accounts to ensure up-to-date content.
· Facilitate communication between U Alumni and constituents.
Prepare and provide regular reporting on social media engagement and monitor effectiveness.
· Collaborate with U Alumni staff teams to assure appropriate marketing strategies are implemented.
· Proofread all communications, monitor media, respond to direct messages, elevate concerning messages and tags.
· Develop and adhere to project timelines.
· Maintain professional relationships with industry professionals, campus partners, and colleagues.
· Grow the brand of U Alumni across the world by working with the content manager. to find creative ways to tell alumni stories and promote alumni successes.
· Promote the mission, goals, and values of the University of Utah to constituents.
· Coordinate with MUSS and SAB students to create content for student-centered accounts.
· Document U Alumni events through photo and video.
· Use up-to-date best practices, leading peer institutions, and internal social media insights and data to inform strategy.
· Support social media outreach on behalf of sponsors and partners.
Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.
