Job Opening: Project Manager
Springer Publishing Company is seeking a dynamic Project Manager to join the Information Services and Technology Team. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this pivotal role will lead project management efforts within the Information Technology team and across the organization. We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented professional who excels at designing and implementing scalable solutions that integrate process, technology, and organizational change. As the business owner for project management, you will work collaboratively with teams in Content, Production, Finance, Marketing, and Operations to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to drive impactful results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Project Leadership: Develop and drive the strategic roadmap for key organizational initiatives, ensuring alignment with company goals and priorities. Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, from scope definition and planning to deployment and post-implementation reviews.
  • Project Planning and Coordination: Create and maintain detailed project timelines, task lists, and deliverables while effectively managing multiple complex projects simultaneously. Ensure proper resource allocation and capacity planning to achieve project milestones.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a primary liaison between teams in Content, Production, Finance, Marketing, and IT, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment on business requirements, resources, and timelines. Lead regular cross-departmental meetings to track progress and resolve issues.
  • Comprehensive Project Documentation: Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope statements, work breakdown structures, milestone schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and dependencies across all project workstreams.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with senior leaders and key stakeholders to align project objectives, establish success criteria, and share regular updates on progress, risks, and performance metrics.
  • Risk Management and Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement contingency plans. Lead issue resolution efforts to overcome obstacles and ensure successful project execution.
  • Agile Practices and Vendor Management: Work closely with remote development teams and external vendors in an Agile environment. Lead sprint planning sessions, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of development milestones.
  • Process Improvement and Change Management: Identify opportunities for process improvements within project management and organizational workflows. Drive change initiatives that enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability across teams.
  • Quality Assurance and Reporting: Establish quality benchmarks and oversee the delivery of high-quality outcomes. Use data-driven insights to generate progress reports, measure success, and recommend areas for continuous improvement.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Provide training and mentorship to team members on project management tools, best practices, and methodologies. Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration across the organization.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, information systems, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of project or program management experience, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
  • PMP or similar project management certification required; Agile or Scrum certifications are a plus.
  • Proven experience managing multiple, large-scale, cross-functional projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Projectmanager.com, Asana, MS Project, JIRA, etc.) and visualization/process mapping software (e.g., LucidChart, Visio, etc.).
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to understand diverse stakeholder needs and translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applying technical coordination, project management best practices, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Highly organized and detail-driven, with the ability to anticipate workflow needs, manage competing priorities, and ensure project success in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in EdTech and/or direct-to-consumer eCommerce is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate challenges and implement effective solutions proactively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and accountability.
  • Experience working with remote development teams and external vendors in an Agile environment is a significant advantage.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to guide cross-functional teams and drive alignment toward shared goals.

  • Must be local and able to travel to our Princeton, NJ office as required.
