Position Overview
Pearson’s Enterprise Learning & Skills Division is seeking a dynamic and strategic Public Relations and Communications Manager to support GED Testing Service and Pearson Accelerated Pathways. This role is ideal for a skilled communications professional passionate about building impactful media relationships, driving national recognition for education products, and positioning our organization as a thought leader in workforce skills and education. The successful candidate will blend tactical expertise with strategic vision and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Media Relations & Outreach
- Develop and implement media strategies to secure national coverage for GED and Pearson Accelerated Pathways programs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers in education, workforce development, and skills training.
- Identify and pitch compelling stories to media outlets, including print, digital, and broadcast.
- Coordinate media interviews, briefings, and speaking engagements to showcase organizational initiatives and successes.
Content Creation & Management
- Draft, edit, and oversee the distribution of newsletters, press releases, media kits, and other external communications.
- Collaborate with internal teams to produce high-quality content that aligns with company objectives and brand voice.
- Monitor and analyze engagement metrics, providing insights and recommendations to optimize communication strategies.
Thought Leadership & Brand Positioning
- Support thought leadership initiatives by identifying speaking opportunities, podcast appearances, and other platforms for company leaders.
- Collaborate with executives to craft compelling narratives, speeches, and presentations.
- Work cross-functionally to position GED and Pearson Accelerated Pathways as industry experts and innovators.
Social Media Management
- Develop and execute social media strategies to amplify PR efforts and engage target audiences.
- Monitor social media trends, conversations, and engagement, ensuring alignment with brand goals.
- Partner with the marketing team to maintain a cohesive online presence.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Act as a bridge between the PR, marketing, and product teams to ensure consistency in messaging and initiatives.
- Provide PR guidance and support for key stakeholders, including external partners and clients.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field or equivalent experience and education.
- 5+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations, preferably in education or workforce development sectors.
Skills & Attributes
- Proven ability to secure national media coverage and build relationships with media professionals.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience managing social media channels and measuring engagement.
- Knowledge of thought leadership strategies, including securing speaking engagements and podcast opportunities
- Results-oriented mindset with the ability to monitor and analyze communications impact.
- A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $90,000 - $95,000.
