ABOUT US:
At Brisk Teaching, we aim to lighten the workload for teachers with AI powered tools that take care of administrative tasks so that teachers can spend more time doing what they love - teaching. Brisk is an AI-powered Chrome extension that simplifies teaching by integrating seamlessly with tools teachers already use like Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, YouTube, and articles. In seconds, teachers can create instructional materials, provide feedback, and evaluate student work - right from where they're already working.
We are a diverse group of technologists, educators, and parents, all united by a passion to improve the lives of educators. With over a decade of collective teaching experience and roles at leading education technology companies like the Chan Zuckerberg Institute, Seesaw Learning, PBS Kids, Clever, NoRedInk, Panorama Education, GoGuardian, and Edulastic, we deeply understand what educators need.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Infrastructure Engineer to help scale and improve our infrastructure as we grow. In a little over a year, we’re already used by more than a million teachers worldwide, and we’re excited to grow even faster in 2025. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys solving infrastructure challenges in a rapidly evolving environment, loves solving complex problems, and can balance reliability with rapid product development.
You'll be part of a small, high-impact engineering team, collaborating closely with product, design, and leadership. You’ll drive key infrastructure projects end-to-end, empowering our developers to build and deploy securely at scale.
YOU WILL:
- Design, build, and maintain core infrastructure that supports Brisk’s products and engineering teams.
- Enhance system reliability and scalability, ensuring seamless performance as our user base expands well past one million teachers.
- Work across cloud services (AWS, Google Could, Azure), CI/CD pipelines, and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with product engineers to ensure smooth development workflows and production stability.
- Lead efforts in observability, monitoring, incident response, and automation.
- Lead architectural decisions for reliability, scalability, and security, ensuring an infrastructure that supports both rapid development and long-term stability.
YOU HAVE:
- 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years focused on infrastructure.
- Experience designing scalable architectures using AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.) and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience optimizing infrastructure for efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and monitoring tools.
- A problem-solving mentality—comfortable jumping between infrastructure, backend, and occasional product work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, proactive mindset, and the ability to work independently.
BONUS POINTS:
- Background in security best practices for infrastructure and data.
- Previous experience in a startup environment or small, fast-moving teams.
- Experience working with AI-powered systems or integrating AI into infrastructure.
- Experience with analytics infrastructure and data pipelines.
- Experience managing cloud costs.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Competitive salary
- Stock options, vested over 4 years
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Collaborate with your teammates two times a week via our hybrid model in either our San Francisco or New York City offices.
- A supportive and collaborative work environment.
- The chance to make a meaningful impact on education through innovative technology.
