Job Description
Senior Compliance Manager 

Chegg is looking for a Compliance professional to join our strong legal team.  This position will report to the Deputy General Counsel/VP and will oversee all ethics and legal compliance matters involving Chegg and/or its subsidiaries, both domestically and internationally. 

The ideal candidate should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment and must be able to collaborate with the C-team, Board of Directors, and internal and external stakeholders.  You are a self-starter who can quickly identify and manage risks and exposures and find strategic opportunities for resolution.  Even if you haven’t previously dealt with or worked on a specific, difficult, or novel compliance issue, you can quickly get up to speed and work cross-functionally to implement any required process, product, or policy changes.

You will provide ethics, compliance, and legal expertise while collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to design, develop, and enhance Chegg’s compliance programs, policies, and procedures.  To excel in this role, you should be experienced in risk management.  This role will collaborate and have regular touchpoints with the Chief Legal Officer, as well as other members of the legal team, such as IP, product, privacy, securities, and employment counsel.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and continually refine an effective ethics and legal compliance program, including compliance in areas like insider trading, whistleblower reporting, conflicts of interest, sanctions, data and privacy, related parties, equity and stock plan administration, marketing/advertising, artificial intelligence, etc.
  • Oversee and implement company-wide ethics and compliance initiatives. 
  • Maintain and regularly update database of company compliance policies.
  • Develop, review and improve company policies, and oversee annual review process.
  • Advise on strategy and content for compliance training.
  • Own legal compliance program communications strategy to ensure regular awareness and support a culture of compliance.
  • Provide support for regulatory agency inquiries and associated compliance requirements.
  • Create detailed reports to advise management on the company’s compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Provide regular updates to the relevant board committee(s) on program status and developments.
  • Use metrics and relevant data to inform direction of the compliance program and monitor effectiveness.
  • Create and manage action plans in response to compliance and/or policy violations.
  • Regularly audit company procedures, practices, and documents to identify possible weaknesses or risks.
  • Assess company operations to determine compliance risk and drive operational change.
  • Ensure all employees are educated on the latest regulations, processes, and policies.
  • Resolve employee concerns about legal compliance.

Requirements:
  • At least 3-5+ years in a global compliance-related role (legal experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of legal requirements and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Adept at delivering practical advice under pressure and prioritizing workload.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and/or assessing compliance programs focused on promoting a culture of compliance.
  • Team player with the ability to forge strong cross-functional relationships throughout the company and help others achieve corporate objectives.
  • Is comfortable working independently and has a “roll up your sleeves” attitude to getting things done.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven track record of effectively working cross-functionally and cross-culturally with partners at all levels.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with, motivate and engage others.
  • Practical, proactive, business-savvy, and results-oriented.
  • Highest ethical standards; ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive, non-public, corporate information.

The pay range for this position is $113,520 - $331,100. The actual pay will vary based on geographic location, job requirements, professional experience, and other factors.
