Job Description:
The SUNY Online Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for delivering online instructional design services, including the ID drop-in services, informational webinars, and online faculty development training contracted for by SUNY campuses under our Service Level Agreement; conducting online course reviews using SUNY Online Course Quality Review Rubric (OSCQR) and providing webinars and consultations in the use of OSCQR to support online course quality; and assisting in the development of materials and resources to support the activities and initiatives of SUNY Online Teaching unit within the SUNY Online organization. This role involves providing online instructional design supports and services, writing and updating materials and resources for the SUNY Online Teaching community, making suggestions for improvements, and contributing to unit activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Instructional Design:
  • Provide expertise in online instructional design to support the delivery of online courses, programs, and initiatives for SUNY campuses and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality online education.

Training, Development & Webinar Facilitation:
  • Develop, improve, and lead information webinars on a variety of topics of interest to SUNY online instructional designers, campuses, and online faculty initiatives, particularly related to the DLE Brightspace environment, the use and implementation of the OSCQR rubric, and related tools and resources to support online course quality and continuous improvement to SUNY campuses.
  • Contribute to and deliver webinars that highlight relevant topics and showcase SUNY Online Teaching resources.

SLA Implementation:
  • Provide instructional design and online teaching supports and services as outlined in the SUNY Online Service Level Agreement (SLA).

OSCQR Support:
  • Offer expert-level OSCQR and instructional design support, consultations in the use of the tools are resources, online course reviews, and drop-in support services for faculty and instructional designers.

Resource Management:
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance SUNY Online Teaching resources, tools, and materials. Stay informed/engaged with trends and changes in online education. 

Community Engagement:
  • Actively participate in the SUNY Online Teaching Community of Practice and contribute to the SUNY Online Teaching social media and blog content to share information, build awareness, foster engagement within the online teaching community.

Event Coordination:
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the SUNY Online Summit and other significant SUNY Online community events.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Expertise in D2L Brightspace.
  • Experience conducting standards-based online course quality reviews.
  • Experience working with online faculty to develop effective online courses.
  • Experience developing and delivering training, webinars, and materials to support online faculty and course development.
  • Strong knowledge of online instructional design and accessibility principles and effective practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Online teaching experience.
  • 5 years relevant experience.
  • Expertise in OSCQR.
  • Certification in OSCQR, Quality Matters, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting and knowledge of emerging technologies used in online, remote, hybrid, and hyflex learning environments.
  • Experience, or certifications in UDL, and tools and approaches to ensure accessibility for all.
  • Experience with YouTube, WordPress, Microsoft Teams, and related technologies.

Additional Information:
  • Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $75,000-$88,000 annually.
  • This position is Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
