Columbia Forest Products, North America’s largest manufacturer of hardwood, plywood, and hardwood veneer product, seeks an experienced Training Developer who will be responsible for developing and delivering training content tailored to the specific needs of the organization. This position will report directly to the Sr. Learning and Development Specialist and indirectly to the IT Strategy & Change Team Lead.

Position Summary
The Training Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging, interactive, and scalable training programs to support IT and business initiatives. This role plays a critical part in driving employee skill development, supporting organizational change, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

The ideal candidate has experience in virtual training design, e-learning development, and instructional best practices, with a passion for leveraging modern learning technologies, AI-driven tools, and data-driven insights to optimize learning experiences. They will have strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, ensuring training aligns with business needs and enhances employee performance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Training Developer will:
  • Design and develop training content that facilitates effective learning and aligns with CFP’s training strategy and defined development standards and templates.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions with subject matter experts to acquire the necessary knowledge to design and create training content.
  • Plan and conduct training sessions, both in-person and virtually, to ensure employees are proficient in the content covered. Provide hands-on training and support as needed.
  • Manage and prioritize all training requests to create content on time and to spec.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on other team members’ content.
  • Test content with users, gather and document feedback, and iteratively refine learning experiences based on real-world use.
  • Ensure all training material is maintained as business processes or system changes occur.
  • Understand any translation requirements and manage translation as necessary.
Assist the Sr. Learning & Development Specialist and the training team in additional tasks as needed.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Educational Technology, or a related field, or 3+ years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Prior experience designing and delivering Instructor-Led Training (ILT), Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), and Web-Based Training (WBT).

Instructional Design & Learning Development Skills
  • Learning Experience Design (LXD)
  • Instructional Design Models (ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s Taxonomy)
  • Assessment & Measurement (Creating quizzes, knowledge checks)
  • Training Data & Optimization (Using feedback to refine content)
  • DEI & Accessibility in Training (508 compliance, UDL principles)

Technical & Digital Learning Skills
  • Expertise using instructional design software, such as:
    • Articulate Storyline 360, Rise, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Clipchamp, or similar applications to create videos and training materials.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Knowledge of SCORM and 508 compliance for e-learning content.
  • Familiarity with AI in Learning (Adaptive learning, chatbots)
  • Experience with Gamification & Engagement (Badging, scenario-based learning)
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) & Content Management (SCORM, LMS platforms, Confluence, SharePoint, Notion)

Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences across varying levels of technical and learning proficiency.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across different locations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Strong communication skills (writing and verbally).
  • Ability to work remotely and attend meetings on camera for approximately 90% of a typical workday.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in video editing and graphic design for e-learning content.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or corporate training within an industrial sector.
  • Fluency in French-Canadian and/or Spanish
