When you join our team as a Training Specialist, you will play a critical part in building and sustaining a learning culture across Interfor’s US and Canadian operations. The primary focus will be on driving measurable value for our business through technical, and skill-based training programs and apprenticeships for our workforce.

As a member of our small but mighty Learning & Talent Development team, you’ll roll up your sleeves to oversee the design, implementation and continuous improvement of value driving learning experiences. By partnering with internal subject matter experts, leadership, HR, and external vendors and partners, you’ll ensure programs are tailored to the needs of our operational workforce and aligned with our strategic initiatives and core values.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and is passionate about solving complex challenges through people development. You’ll enjoy taking a systematic approach to training development programs but can adapt strategies to fit the realities of our shift-based, boots to the ground workforce, evolving production demands, and diverse learning styles. 

This role will be located at our office in Perry, GA and will require in office attendance 4 days per week, with flexibility as needed to work from home. Collaboration and a deep understanding of our business operations are critical to success in this role—being on-site allows you to build strong partnerships, stay connected to the realities of our production environment, and develop training programs that truly meet the needs of our workforce.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate with internal subject-matter experts and external vendors/partners to plan and deliver innovative, scalable learning solutions—such as on-the-job training, eLearning, job aids, instructor led training, etc. ensuring seamless delivery within established timelines.
  • Collaborate with Operations and HR on apprenticeship program initiatives, providing guidance on adult learning best practices and support of program delivery and improvement projects.
  • Conduct needs assessments in partnership with operations and leadership to identify skills gaps and define opportunities for development.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects for technical training and apprenticeship programs, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of current and future training program needs by collaborating with business leaders across corporate and operations.
  • Evaluate pre-existing training content and programs by gathering feedback and analyzing program KPIs to re-version content as needed.
  • Partner with the business to develop clear, engaging program overviews and training communications that articulate purpose, expected outcomes, and how initiatives drive operational value.
  • Participate in the sourcing, vetting and onboarding of vendors and technologies that drive the development and or delivery of accessible training across the organization.
  • Research, evaluate and initiate outside training partnership opportunities.
  • Apply adult learning principles and modern instructional design practices to improve engagement across training efforts.
  • Research and leverage emerging technologies to support adult learning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lead engaging in-person and virtual learning sessions across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key learning metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and ROI.
  • Create data-driven reports using HR and operational metrics to communicate progress and impact.
  • Research and recommend innovative learning strategies that meet the evolving needs of a high-performance manufacturing environment.
  • Identify opportunities for training & development funding in Canada and the US.
  • Administer and maintain training content in the Learning Management System (LMS), including uploading, updating, and deploying courses.
  • Manage training records, certifications, test results, and ensure accurate tracking across tools and systems.
  • Work with the HR Systems team to maximize the functionality of the LMS to enhance the learner experience and streamline administrative processes.
  • Support the broader L&D team by assisting in the execution of training events, initiatives, and other learning and talent development projects
  • Occasional travel to Interfor divisions and offices in both Canada and the US as needed.

What You Offer
  • 3-5 years of related experience in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of technical training, preferably from an industrial or manufacturing sector.
  • Highly proficient with MS Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to analyze training data, report out on programs, and create monthly/quarterly reports or decks for senior leaders.
  • Experience working with an LMS (Cornerstone OnDemand preferred); capable of quickly learning new software programs.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to guide a project team to achieve high-quality, cost effective, on-time, results.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with all levels of an organization on strategic execution and process improvement.
  • Ability to travel to Interfor Divisions and Offices in the US and Canada.
  • Experience supporting and facilitating the development, implementation, and maintenance of technical training programs.
  • Strong background in building operational learning programs that promote safety, skill development, and production efficiency.
  • Solid understanding of adult learning principles and modern instructional design methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak in front of groups online and in-person.
  • Ability to create clear, business-aligned communication materials to support training adoption and engagement.
  • Strong program and project management skills with the ability to deliver results in fast-paced, ever-changing environments.
  • Experience sourcing, managing, and evaluating external training vendors and solutions.
  • Proven ability to cope effectively with change and manage priorities in a fast-paced, result oriented work environment.
  • Understanding of Learning and Development’s role in the employee experience, and ability to articulate the connection between training and development initiatives to broader HR and organizational priorities (ie. retention, internal mobility etc.)
