Robert Morris University is hiring a Financial Aid Counselor to guide students and families through federal, state, and institutional aid at its Moon Township campus. The counselor manages the aid process for roughly one-third of the student population, from first-year and transfer undergraduates to graduate, doctoral, online, and certificate students, and reviews student files for accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Highlights
  • Manages the financial aid process for about one-third of the student population, spanning freshman, transfer, continuing undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, online, off-campus, and certificate students.
  • Counsels students and parents on aid policies and procedures through appointments, walk-ins, phone calls, and email, presenting payment and financing options and recommending ways to reduce loan debt.
  • Completes verification and monitors student files, requesting missing documents and reviewing household and income data from federal tax returns, W-2s, and other income documentation, then reports corrections to the Department of Education when necessary.
  • Resolves non-valid FAFSAs involving issues such as citizenship documentation, loan borrowing history, Social Security Administration database mismatches, and dependency status, and reviews documentation for dependency overrides and professional judgment cases.
  • Represents the university at orientations, financial aid nights, and college fairs, staffing a financial aid booth and presenting aid information to groups.
  • Stays current on regulatory updates through training sessions and workshops and through membership in PASFAA and NASFAA.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid policy, a thorough understanding of the federal tax code, and the ability to maintain confidentiality of student and university information; two or more years of financial aid experience is preferred.
  • Prefers a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; the role is primarily in-office with occasional remote flexibility at the manager's approval, and may occasionally require evening or weekend hours.
